Bucksnort Longhunters Offer Glimps Into the Past
This weekend, Pritchard Community Center will look more like 1814 than 2014.
For 17 years, the Bucksnort Longhunters have presented an 18th Century Market Fair.
The event brings those with interest from as far away as St. Louis, organizer and club member Danny Hill said.
At the market, patrons can purchase items made in the same way they were in the 1800s, Hill said.
Tanned leather, hides, blacksmith wares, clothing and many other items representing Kentucky’s frontier days will be for sale, he said.
Muzzleloading rifles and parts that include round balls for muzzles will be sold. No modern firearms or knives will be at the event, Hill said, only pieces that represent the time period.
Collectors and enthusiasts can find anything they need to recreate the time period, including pots and pans, he said.
All sellers base their wares on research of the time period to make the best representation possible, Hill said.
Anyone who has any curiosity about that part of Kentucky history will enjoy walking through the event, even if they are not interested in purchasing anything, he said.
There will be at least 30 vendors selling period items throughout the building.
The event is from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Pritchard Community Center is at 404 South Mulberry Street in Elizabethtown.
Admission is $3 and free for children 12 and younger.
The event serves as a fundraiser and proceeds from ticket sales go to the Bucksnort Longhunters club.
